Musk’s Platform Lets Go of Key Executive Amid Performance Concerns

In a move hinting at internal struggles, Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, fired a senior executive this month, according to a report by the Financial Times (FT). The ousted official, who hasn’t been publicly identified, held a critical role in business operations and communications.
Unnamed sources familiar with the situation revealed to the FT that the dismissal comes amidst growing tension between Musk and the platform’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino. Apparently, Musk has been pressuring Yaccarino to significantly improve X’s financial performance, specifically focusing on boosting sales and reducing costs. Yaccarino, who assumed the CEO position a year ago, has yet to comment on the recent development.
The report further states that the departed executive’s responsibilities will be taken over by Nick Pickles, X’s current head of global government affairs. This move seems to be a temporary expansion of Pickles’ role, encompassing both government affairs and global communications. Sources familiar with X’s internal workings suggest this shift signifies a promotion for Pickles, who has been with the company since before Musk’s acquisition in 2022.
It’s important to note that this news comes after reports of significant staff turnover at X following Musk’s takeover. Last year, CNBC, citing internal documents, reported that nearly 80% of former Twitter employees left the company after the billionaire’s purchase.
The recent executive dismissal and the ongoing financial pressure suggest that X might be undergoing significant adjustments under Musk’s leadership. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the platform’s future and its overall financial health.
