The US president has previously accused Vladimir Zelensky of undermining his peace efforts<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>US President Donald Trump has said he expected Vladimir Zelensky to be much\u00a0\u201ceasier to deal with\u201d<\/em> than Russian President Vladimir Putin, but indicated he still hopes Kiev will accept Washington\u2019s proposal to end the conflict in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Zelensky has publicly rejected<\/a> one of the key points in the proposed US peace framework<\/a>, insisting earlier this week that Kiev will neven even discuss formally recognizing Crimea as Russian territory. The White House criticized him for revealing sensitive details<\/a> of the negotiations \u2013 while President Trump warned that he risks losing the entire country<\/a> if he continues to stall talks with Moscow.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Russia is ready\u2026 I think we have a deal with Russia. We have to get a deal with Zelensky,\u201d<\/em> Trump told journalists at the White House on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

And I hope that Zelensky\u2026 I thought it might be easier to deal with Zelensky \u2013 so far it\u2019s been harder.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The US president added, \u201cthat\u2019s okay, it\u2019s alright,\u201d<\/em> expressing hope that \u201cwe\u2019ll have a deal with both.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump warned in a post on Truth Social that Zelensky holds a weak bargaining position. \u201cThe situation for Ukraine is dire \u2013 He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country,\u201d<\/em> he wrote.<\/p>\n

Trump declined to\u00a0say whether he intends to meet Zelensky when both are expected to attend the funeral of Pope Francis later this week. \u201cI don\u2019t know if he is going to the funeral or not\u2026 I just hope he gets this thing solved,\u201d<\/em> Trump told reporters.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he expects to meet Putin during a planned visit to Saudi Arabia next month, Trump said it was \u201cpossible, but most likely not\u2026 I think we\u2019ll meet with him shortly thereafter.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The US has been pushing for a resolution to the conflict, while also seeking to secure a minerals extraction agreement with Ukraine to help offset the billions of dollars it has spent supplying weapons and aid.<\/p>\n

However, Trump and his administration have grown increasingly frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations on both fronts. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned on Tuesday that if progress stalls, the US may walk away from the talks. \u201cIf not enough movement is happening, we may need to move on to other priorities,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also voiced Trump\u2019s frustration with Zelensky. \u201cUnfortunately, Zelensky has been trying to litigate this peace negotiation in the press, and that\u2019s unacceptable to the president,\u201d<\/em> Leavitt said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that a peace deal with Ukraine is unlikely to be concluded in an expedited manner due to the complexities of the negotiations.
