Iran\u2019s supreme leader has rebuffed Donald Trump\u2019s threat to use force<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/p>

The West is keen on using negotiations over Iran\u2019s nuclear program to assert its dominance, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Saturday. His statement came when President Donald Trump suggested that the US may have to use force against the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome coercive governments insist on negotiations. Such negotiations aren\u2019t aimed at solving issues. Their aim is to exert their dominance and impose what they want,\u201d<\/em> Khamenei wrote on his English-language account on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree European countries issue statements claiming that Iran hasn\u2019t fulfilled its nuclear commitments under the JCPOA! Someone from this side should ask them, have you fulfilled yours?!\u201d<\/em> he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During his first term in office, Trump pulled the US from the 2015 deal, known as the JCPOA, and reimposed sanctions on Iran. Tehran has responded by scaling down its own compliance with the deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an interview with Fox Business that aired on Friday, Trump said that \u201cthere are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily, or you make a deal.\u201d<\/em> He earlier said that he had sent a letter to Khamenei offering to reopen negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve written them a letter saying, \u2018I hope you\u2019re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it\u2019s going to be a terrible thing,\u2019\u201d<\/em> Trump told Fox.<\/p>\n

International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Mariano Grossi reported earlier this week that Iran has again increased its stockpile of enriched uranium. On Wednesday, the UK, France, and Germany released a joint statement calling on Tehran to \u201chalt and reverse its nuclear escalation\u201d<\/em> and return to full compliance with the JCPOA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tehran has insisted that the US and its allies in Europe must first remedy the sanctions imposed under Trump. \u201cAny allegation regarding Iran\u2019s implementation of its JCPOA commitments is fundamentally flawed when divorced from the full context of the US withdrawal,\u201d<\/em> Iran\u2019s envoy to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, said in December 2024.
