Florida lawyer John Morgan says he plans to represent voters who are \u201cstuck in the middle\u201d of the two-party political system<\/strong><\/p>\n

John Morgan, a Florida lawyer and donor to former US President Joe Biden, has announced the launch of his own political party, citing discontent with both Democrats and Republicans.<\/p>\n

Morgan is a billionaire owner of personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan and an independent who, however, has a long history of fundraising for Democratic campaigns. He made the announcement in a post on X on Wednesday, arguing that America\u2019s two-party system is broken.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am forming a new political party for those of us stuck in the middle. Our two party system is broken due to Gerrymandering and divisive issues\u2026 both sides. No labels is not an option,\u201d<\/em> Morgan said, adding that the paperwork for the new party is already being drafted.<\/p>\n

The lawyer is no stranger to politics, having successfully bankrolled constitutional amendments on medical marijuana and raising the minimum wage in Florida. He also previously floated his intention of running for governor of Florida. The state\u2019s next gubernatorial election in 2026 will be an open contest as Governor Ron DeSantis will be ineligible to run again.<\/p>\n

Morgan first voiced the idea of forming a new party last year, calling it the Capitalist Party. Commenting on this idea in a recent interview with Florida Playbook, he said, \u201cwhen you take the \u2018D\u2019 and the \u2018R\u2019 down, most of us agree on most things,\u201d<\/em> referring to the Democratic and Republican parties.<\/p>\n

Morgan left the Democratic Party in 2017, explaining that he was driven to do so due to disillusionment with its direction. He has continued to support Democratic candidates after leaving the party, including Biden, but refused to contribute to fundraising efforts for former Vice President Kamala Harris in last year\u2019s presidential election, saying \u201cshe would not be my first choice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

However, Morgan has expressed enthusiasm over President Donald Trump reelection, saying: \u201cI don\u2019t know if Trump is a stable genius, but he\u2019s a f**king genius.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe tapped into something the Republicans never saw, which was anger and populism on that side,\u201d<\/em> the lawyer said in an interview in December.<\/p>\n
