The move was taken after the African nation had passed a land expropriation law to address racial disparities in land ownership.<\/p>\n<p>In his order published on Friday, Trump accused Pretoria of <em>\u201cshocking disregard of its citizens\u2019 rights\u201d<\/em> and claimed that the newly adopted legislation supposedly allows the government to confiscate ethnic minority Afrikaners\u2019 agricultural property without compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Afrikaners are descendants of European colonists, mostly from the Netherlands, who had arrived on the territory of modern South Africa back in 17th century. Following the decades of an apartheid regime, which Africa\u2019s most advanced economy dismantled only in 1990s, white farmers still own the majority of land in the country. Pretoria has set a target of transferring 30% of farmland to black farmers by 2030 to address this inequality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Trump\u2019s order, the South African government\u2019s policies were supposedly aimed at depriving the white minority of equal employment, education, and business opportunities while fueling violence against <em>\u201cracially disfavored landowners.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n        <span><strong>Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure>\n            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mf.b37mrtl.ru\/files\/2025.02\/thumbnail\/67a5eb6a2030274b7f5d2403.jpg\" alt=\"South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.\" \/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/africa\/612327-south-africa-president-against-bullying\/\">South Africa \u2018will not be bullied\u2019 \u2013 president<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The presidential decree orders a halt to any aid or assistance to South Africa as long as its <em>\u201cunjust and immoral practices\u201d<\/em> persist and demands the relevant departments and officials, including the secretary of state and the secretary of homeland security <em>\u201cprioritize humanitarian relief, including admission and resettlement through the United States Refugee Admissions Program, for Afrikaners in South Africa.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The document also criticizes Pretoria over supposedly <em>\u201cundermining United States foreign policy\u201d<\/em> thus posing a national security threat to Washington, its interests, and its allies. The list of <em>\u201caggressive positions\u201d<\/em> taken by South Africa includes accusing Israel of genocide in the International Court of Justice and developing ties with Iran, including <em>\u201ccommercial, military, and nuclear arrangements.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The measures introduced by the executive order are to stay in place as long as South Africa continues <em>\u201cpractices that harm\u201d<\/em> the US, the document said.
