Zelensky also proposed that the West <em>\u201cdeploy a comprehensive non-nuclear strategic deterrence package\u201d<\/em> on Ukrainian soil to keep Russia at bay.<\/p>\n<p>He later explained that this package should <em>\u201ceither force Russia to participate in real peace negotiations or allow for the destruction of their military targets,\u201d<\/em> adding that it should include missile systems.<\/p>\n<p>        <span><strong>Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/605910-hungary-zelensky-plan-war\/\">Zelensky plan \u2018quickest way to world war\u2019 \u2013 Orban\u2019s top adviser<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lecornu praised Zelensky\u2019s plan as <em>\u201cthe beginning of a political path in which we must assume to help Ukraine in the long term, and especially to ask the question what would happen next.\u201d<\/em> The minister noted that if Kiev concludes a ceasefire with Moscow, this <em>\u201craises the question of conventional deterrence\u201d<\/em> which he said will <em>\u201cdiscourage a new Russian aggression.\u201d<\/em> This<em> \u201cis an issue that needs to be addressed now,\u201d he added.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The minister stressed that he believes that<em> \u201cone day Ukraine will talk again to Russia,\u201d recalling that the Zelensky plan assumes that Ukraine will retake all of its territories lost to Russia.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<em>\u201cThe difficulty of the current moment is that we must assume the balance of forces,\u201d<\/em> Lecornu pointed out. <\/p>\n<p>While French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has signaled that Paris is ready to back Zelensky\u2019s plan, several NATO nations have been less enthusiastic. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has refused to give Kiev long-range missiles or support its quick accession to NATO, while Hungarian officials have warned that such an approach could result in a major escalation.
