He had positioned himself in the bushes of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, waiting for the former president to come by, when Secret Service agents spotted him and opened fire.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Deputies caught up with Routh on a nearby highway and detained him without incident.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Only 18 seconds of the video have been made public, but they show the deputies instructing Routh to walk backwards in their direction. The suspect has his hands in the air and a t-shirt over his head.<\/p>\n<p>Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw has previously shared photos of Routh\u2019s apparent hideout, showing an <em>\u201cAK-47-style\u201d<\/em> assault rifle with a scope, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks filled with ceramic tiles, hanging on a nearby fence.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference on Monday, US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Markenzy Lapointe revealed that the weapon was actually an older <em>\u201cSKS-style\u201d<\/em> rifle, with its serial number erased.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Routh has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obstructed serial number, both federal crimes.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>        <span><strong>Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/604129-kyle-routh-past-records\/\">Convict, Zelensky fanboy, would-be Trump assassin: Who is Ryan Routh?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to criminal records that surfaced after his arrest, Routh was convicted in 2002 of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, which was reportedly a fully automatic machine gun. Routh had been detained after a three-hour standoff with police in North Carolina.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Since then, he moved to Hawaii and became politically involved with trending issues of the day. In 2022, he embraced the cause of Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, advocating for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/604141-ukraine-trump-shooter-connection\/\">fundraising<\/a> for the Ukrainian army.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>In a self-published 2023 book, titled \u2018Ukraine\u2019s Unwinnable War: The Fatal Flaw of Democracy, World Abandonment and the Global Citizen \u2013 Taiwan, Afghanistan, North Korea and the end of Humanity\u2019, Routh also expressed hope someone would assassinate Trump, whom he called <em>\u201cbrainless and a \u201cretarded child.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trump narrowly escaped death once already, at a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
