Beijing demands that the US and UK \u201cstop adding fuel to the fire\u201d in the Ukraine conflict<\/strong><\/p>\n

Claims by Washington and London that Beijing is supporting Russia\u2019s military in the conflict with Ukraine are \u201cgroundless,\u201d<\/em> the Chinese embassy in the UK stated on Monday.<\/p>\n

The diplomatic mission responded<\/a> to the \u2018Joint Statement on the US-UK Strategic Dialogue,\u2019 which was issued after talks between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House last week. Among other things, the document said the sides shared \u201cparticular concern\u201d<\/em> about what they called \u201cChina\u2019s support to Russia\u2019s defense industrial base.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Chinese embassy rejected the accusation, stressing that Beijing has \u201calways maintained an objective and fair position, actively promoted peace talks and pushed for a political solution\u201d<\/em> to the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe firmly oppose the relevant countries\u2019 constant propagation of disinformation that China supports Russia\u2019s defense industry,\u201d<\/em> the statement read.<\/p>\n

By making such claims, the US and UK are \u201cadding fuel to the fire and shifting the blame\u201d<\/em> from themselves for the continuation of the fighting between Moscow and Kiev, the embassy said, adding that they should \u201cstop\u201d<\/em> behaving in this manner.<\/p>\n

The joint statement by Washington and London also underlined the importance of close coordination between the two nations in promoting their common values and interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The sides insisted that \u201cpeace and stability\u201d<\/em> in the Taiwan Strait, which separates Taiwan and mainland China, are \u201cindispensable to the security and prosperity of the international community and called for the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201d<\/em> The Chinese embassy reminded the US and UK that \u201cthe Taiwan question is purely China\u2019s internal affair\u201d<\/em> and that \u201cNo external forces have the right to interfere.\u201d<\/em> Beijing considers the self-governed island to be part of its territory under the \u2018One China\u2019 principle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait now is the separatist activities for \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 and the interference of external forces,\u201d<\/em> the diplomats stressed.<\/p>\n
